What do I need to do to switch?

Switching to Latrobe Health can be done in 3 simple steps:

  1. Select the right cover for you online, or you could speak to us over the phone: 1300 362 144 (Mon – Fri, 8:30am – 6:00pm). You could even speak to us over web chat, look for the chat icon on the bottom right to get started. 
  2. All you need to do is give us details of your old health fund and we will do all the paperwork for you.
  3. Start enjoying the benefits of Latrobe Health, without having to re-serve waiting periods that you’ve already served with your previous fund^^.

What happens if I increase my cover, or I have not served waiting periods?

You are covered immediately for treatment required as a result of an accident that occurs after you join Latrobe. For all other treatments or services, you must serve a waiting period. This is a specified time you must wait after joining before you can claim benefits under your hospital or extras cover. These waiting periods apply to new members starting private health cover and to existing members upgrading their cover.

12 months waiting period applies to: pre-existing conditions (excluding psychiatric, rehabilitation and palliative care), major dental and orthodontic treatment, optical, blood glucose monitors, blood pressure monitors, compressor pumps and nebulisers, hearing aids, C-PAP machines, TENS machines and non-surgically implanted prostheses.

12 months waiting period also applies to: pregnancy related conditions. The expected delivery date must be after the completion of a 12 month waiting period. Written confirmation of expected delivery date is required from the treating practitioner.

6 months: for optical on all our extras products 

2 months: general dental treatment, mouthguards

2 months: all other services

Do my previous extras claims' count on my new policy?

Yes, if you have made claims on your existing limits, those will be carried over to your Latrobe Health cover, within this calendar year. These limits will reset on January 1st.

What about my premium that I just paid?

Not to worry at all, we've got you covered. You will be able to choose the start date of your choice. We can help make sure that you don't have any gaps in your insurance coverage, or you could start with Latrobe Health today and ask your previous health fund to refund the balance of the premium paid.
