Two new theatres and 19 recovery beds have opened as the first stage of the $16 million Maryvale Private Hospital redevelopment was completed this month.
CEO of Maryvale Private Hospital Mr. Lee Garwood said, “This is a very exciting week for everyone involved in this project, we have been waiting for this day to come when we can welcome in patients of Gippsland and begin using the functional spaces to accommodate more surgeries and care for our community.
“We were thrilled to welcome our first patient, and Latrobe Health Services member Raymonde through surgery in the newly developed area.”
Loaded with innovative technology and efficiencies, the redevelopment features state-of-the-art sterilisation workflows and systems, and a warm and pleasant environment. This redevelopment has not only focused on the latest technology for safe and contemporary care but to also deliver a comfortable and efficient hospital stay.
Funded by Gippsland’s not-for-profit health insurer, Latrobe Health Services, stage 1 of the $16 million redevelopment is the biggest and most exciting part of the works, bringing to life two new operating theatres and adding 19 beds to day surgeries effectively doubling surgical throughput and expanding services and health care options for Gippslanders.
The hospital has continued to run at full capacity throughout the redevelopment and patients have been able to access all care and procedures as planned.
“The staff has been so patient throughout the build, and with our new areas now open, are excited to use the facilities and have upgrades on technology, workflows, and patient experience. Our newly recruited nurse graduates who started this week have settled in and will also get to experience working in this area - a very exciting time for the hospital and the community!” said Mr. Garwood.
The next stages are set to roll out immediately, with the doubling of Specialist consulting suites, an expansion of an existing theatre, the creation of a new patient admission area, staff amenities, and much more.
Mr. Ian Whitehead, CEO of Latrobe Health Services said staff at the fund were thrilled to see this stage of the work completed.
“We’re a not-for-profit Gippsland-based fund and to see these facilities available not only to members, but the broader Gippsland community is an extremely proud day for us.”
“We’ve keenly watched as the concrete slab has been transformed into such an incredible space.”
”Our investment in Maryvale Private Hospital demonstrates our ongoing commitment to our members, the Gippsland community, and to improving access to health care services for our regional members,” continued Mr. Whitehead.
