The inaugural Moe Show Me Some Art Festival will be held this coming weekend, March 27 and 28.

Latrobe Health is sponsoring the festival, with all proceeds from the event going to support the essential work of Beyond Blue and Lifeline. The festival includes a colour run beginning and ending at Moe Botanic Gardens, food trucks, 50+ artists and musicians and activities for the kids.

Moe artist Steve Bechaz (pictured), who painted a striking graffiti wall at Latrobe Health’s Newborough office, is coordinating the festival.

Steve said a range of community organisations have banded together to support the festival and raise funds for mental health.

“It’s a big thing to organise, especially when you’re faced with snap lockdown. But there’s been a lot of community support. Apex has jumped on board, helping to auspice grants. That was great,” Steve said.

“We’re really hoping it’s going to be a good day. There’s people who are itching to get out. I think the sooner we have the festival the better, really.”

The Gippsland arts community has embraced the event. Festival activities will include a silent charity art auction at the Moe Town Hall, amazing fine artists in action and some up and coming artists showing their wares in the school art competition. There will also be a monster raffle.

While 2021 is shaping up as a great first staging of the festival, Steve believes 2022 and beyond will only be bigger and better.

“We’ve got the potential to make this a Gippsland-wide event, travelling from location to location from year to year. Whether that’s Morwell, Traralgon or some other place. Of course, my heart is in Moe and we’re really keen to brighten the place up,” he said.
