Connected communities are resilient, healthy communities, and here at Latrobe Health we recognise that’s good for all of us.
From our heartland in Gippsland, where we were established in 1951, to rural and regional centres throughout the country, we’re here to connect, support and empower our community and our members.
Latrobe Health is a member-based, not-for-profit health insurer that gives back in good times, and supports its members and communities in bad.
Our community program responds to community need, focusing on improved access to health services for rural and regional communities in particular, and on the physical and mental health of families in these regions.
Being a not-for-profit health insurer means being active in health and community outcomes
Our community initiatives
Maryvale Private Hospital
We own and operate Maryvale Private Hospital, Gippsland’s only private acute medical and surgical hospital. Established in 1991, Maryvale has cared for more than 65,000 patients in the Gippsland region since its inception. It is a key health hub contributing to education and clinical programs such as diabetic care, cancer services, palliative care, breast care and men’s health.
In 2023, the Maryvale redevelopment project was completed which saw the addition of two new theatres, an upgrade to an existing theatre and 19 additional beds. The project also created a new central sterilising service department, admissions centre, a pre-surgical waiting area and expanded consulting areas. These upgraded facilities and improved capacity will enable professional growth and development among health care specialists, enhancing their ability to deliver the highest quality of care.
Partnerships
We partner with health providers to ensure our regional and remote communities have access to medical services otherwise unavailable in the region.
Phoenix Australia
Phoenix Australia is the Australian National Centre of Excellence in Posttraumatic Mental Health, a University of Melbourne affiliated non-profit and the developer of the NHMRC Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment guidelines. Latrobe Health supports Phoenix Australia to understand, prevent, reduce and recover from the adverse mental health effects of trauma including those arising from natural disasters, war or acts of terrorism.
